{"id":44361,"date":"2025-05-16T10:23:01","date_gmt":"2025-05-16T15:23:01","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/dev.profonanpe.org.pe\/?p=44361"},"modified":"2025-05-16T10:23:01","modified_gmt":"2025-05-16T15:23:01","slug":"junin-bets-on-avitourism-in-the-proposal-of-acr-san-cristobal-de-pucuta-menkori","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/web.profonanpe.org.pe\/en\/junin-apuesta-por-el-aviturismo-en-la-propuesta-de-acr-san-cristobal-de-pucuta-menkori\/","title":{"rendered":"Jun\u00edn bets on avitourism in the proposal of ACR San Crist\u00f3bal de Pucut\u00e1 - Menkori"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><b>\u00a0<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Calabaza is also on the bird watching route.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">known as \u201cSatipo road\u201d, in the Avireri-Vraem Biosphere Reserve.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a9 Gerson Ferrer | Yunkawasi<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><b>Participatory Conservation of the Tropical Andes in the Department of Junin - Peru<\/b><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Thanks to the joint work between the Calabaza Village Center, the Regional Government of Jun\u00edn, the Yunkawasi Civil Association and the Provincial Municipality of Satipo, the following activities are underway <\/span><b><i>promoting avitourism as a sustainable economic alternative, <\/i><\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">in the heart of the cloud forests of Satipo.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">These articulated efforts have allowed Calabaza to <\/span><b><i>to promote their own sustainable development initiatives by forming an avitourism association. <\/i><\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">This seeks to strengthen the capacities of its members and promote the improvement of their tourism equipment and infrastructure.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In connection with these initiatives, in March a <\/span><b><i>participatory study on the diversity of bird species and the identification of potential tourist routes in the town center.<\/i><\/b><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><b>A proposal for diversity<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Calabaza community is located in the proposed San Crist\u00f3bal de Pucut\u00e1 - Menkori Regional Conservation Area (ACR), an initiative of the Natural Resources and Environmental Management Office of Jun\u00edn.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Its purpose is to <\/span><b><i>to conserve more than 60 thousand hectares of natural wealth <\/i><\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">and to promote a development model that benefits local communities, guarantees their quality of life and<\/span><b><i> safeguard the responsible use of resources<\/i><\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Conserving bird diversity is one of the main objectives of this upcoming protected area in Jun\u00edn. The project is in the <\/span><b><i>stage II of its establishment process, <\/i><\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">and has the technical and financial support of Asociaci\u00f3n Civil Yunkawasi, Rainforest Trust, Andes Amazon Fund and the Conserva Aves initiative.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><b>Pumpkin: home to numerous birds<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In the Calabaza area alone, the following have been reported <\/span><b><i>more than 100 different bird species<\/i><\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, among them<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> some endemic species that make Calabaza an important <\/span><b><i>destination of high interest for avitourism worldwide.<\/i><\/b><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Among the species unique to Peru, the Oxapampa antpitta (<\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Grallaria centralis<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">) and the Jun\u00edn antpitta (<\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Grallaria obscura<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">), as well as the Jun\u00edn tapaculo (<\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Scytalopus gentryi<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">) and the jalca tapaculo (<\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Scytalopus frankeae<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">).\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">For more than 10 years, the inhabitants of the Calabaza Settlement, also located within the Avireri-Vraem Biosphere Reserve, have been committed to birdwatching tourism as an alternative to birdwatching. <\/span><b><i>source of sustainable development.<\/i><\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Currently, they have a lodge in the process of implementation, several restaurants to serve visitors and local guides who accompany birdwatchers who visit the area to identify the main species.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-44363\" src=\"https:\/\/dev.profonanpe.org.pe\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/05\/2025_03_07-08-Junin-PACRPucuta-EstudioAvesCPCalabaza-\u00a9GersonFerrer-Yunkawasi-13-1024x683.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"800\" height=\"534\" \/><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><em><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The inhabitants of the Calabaza Settlement Center participated in the study together with<\/span><\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><em><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">to the technical team of the ACR San Crist\u00f3bal de Pucut\u00e1 -
