{"id":45685,"date":"2025-07-14T22:47:29","date_gmt":"2025-07-15T03:47:29","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/dev.profonanpe.org.pe\/?p=45685"},"modified":"2025-07-14T22:47:29","modified_gmt":"2025-07-15T03:47:29","slug":"loreto-consolidates-environmental-governance-in-pastaza","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/web.profonanpe.org.pe\/en\/loreto-consolida-la-gobernanza-ambiental-en-el-pastaza\/","title":{"rendered":"Loreto consolidates environmental governance in the Pastaza River"},"content":{"rendered":"<p data-start=\"483\" data-end=\"768\">Last Friday, July 11, in the city of Iquitos, the formation of the Management Committee of the Ramsar Site \u201cWetlands Complex of the Pastaza River Fan\u201d was made official, in a day that marks a milestone in the strengthening of participatory environmental governance in the Peruvian Amazon.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"483\" data-end=\"768\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The ASL2 Amazonian Forests project, led by the Ministry of the Environment (Minam) and financed with funds from the Global Environment Facility (GEF), has been promoting spaces that strengthen governance and promote active participation. <\/span>of the Regional Government of Loreto, local governments, indigenous organizations, public institutions and civil society.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1043\" data-end=\"1515\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-45692 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/dev.profonanpe.org.pe\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/07\/DSC06827-1024x576.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"800\" height=\"450\" \/><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\" data-start=\"1043\" data-end=\"1515\"><em>Photo: Regional Environmental Management Office of Loreto<\/em><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1043\" data-end=\"1515\"><em>\u201cWith this committee, we consolidate a co-management model in which decisions about the territory are built from dialogue and local knowledge. From Minam we will continue to provide the necessary technical support so that this process is maintained and strengthened.\u201d<\/em>, said Marco Enciso, director of Minam's Ecosystem and Species Conservation Directorate.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1043\" data-end=\"1515\">During the installation meeting, the committee's board of directors was elected, its internal regulations were validated and shared commitments were established to promote sustainable management of the country's largest wetland. The Committee thus becomes a space for inter-institutional coordination that will make it possible to follow up on actions in the territory, strengthen the exchange of information, and ensure the active participation of all stakeholders.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1517\" data-end=\"1843\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-45693 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/dev.profonanpe.org.pe\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/07\/DSC06853-1024x531.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"800\" height=\"415\" \/><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\" data-start=\"1517\" data-end=\"1843\"><em>Photo: Regional Environmental Management Office of Loreto<\/em><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1517\" data-end=\"1843\">Cristina Portocarrero, technical coordinator of the ASL2 project, pointed out that <em>\u201cthis committee is the result of a sustained process of articulation with key actors of the territory, and reaffirms that the conservation of our wetlands is only possible if we work in a participatory manner, with a long-term vision and with the leadership of those who inhabit and protect these ecosystems.\u201d<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1517\" data-end=\"1843\">The Ramsar Site, internationally recognized since 2002, covers more than 3.8 million hectares that fulfill key functions such as water regulation, carbon storage and the provision of natural resources for hundreds of communities.
